Eva & Kevin – Castle on the Hill

Kevin and Eva’s wedding is a story straight from a fairytale. Having partnered with Shanghai’s top wedding designer, Weddingism. WeDo was able to reach a new level of creativity. The ceremony was held in the gardens at the iconic Hatley Castle in Victoria BC; truly bringing out the vintage romance that the couple desired.

CEREMONY

For the ceremony, we would like to have the iconic castle as our backdrop when Eva and Kevin say I do. The aisle was lined with multiple floral arrangements of different styles and sizes, creating a beautiful walkway for our bride. At the front of the aisle stood a 9ft custom built circular arbour; fully covered in a lush foliage base and an abundance of floral clusters. Following closely to the couple’s colour palette of the late summer hues: blushes, peaches, yellows, and creams. The most challenging part of the day was everything needed to build on site.  Hugh shout out to the Celsia Team who worked non-stop under 30 degree weather.

In every story, there is always a challenge, not a challenge for the couple, but a challenge for event designers. In order to achieve the fairytale dream, we were sourcing out a mixed style of vintage chairs from different suppliers from Vancouver to Victoria.

WELCOME AREA

To resemble the luxury castle life, we decided to bring indoor outdoor, creating a living room as a welcome area for all the guests to enjoy.  The vintage living room consists of many different antique items from various antique furniture stores and vendors.  Guests were able to enjoy a nice afternoon tea as they wait for the bride and groom’s arrival.

The Princess of the woods welcomed her guests to her vintage living room. Where the main statement of the fireplace was. This fireplace turned out to be so heavy that it took 4 of our strongest guys to move it form the loading area to the designated location, a total of at least 400 meters including twists and turns and staircases.

BRIDAL ROOM IN THE WOODS

The most unique design of this wedding was the bridal room inside the forest.  The vision is to complete a real life fairytale dream. The vintage bed was built on site, our team had to overcome the uneven surface in the woods in order to make the bed functional and safe to lie on.

Just like in Disney, princess wakes up in the woods to meet her prince. While the guests wait in the vintage living room, the groom had just woken the bride from her deep sleep. Her bedroom, located in the depths of the forest, was a very difficult find, even for WeDo. The exact designated location was decided on the day of, after much scouting with together Weddingism on site.

All the details in the vanity area are real antiques, so they can truly portray the Victorian era princess style.   We spent months looking for all the decor items and props. Our Creative Director Jessie even visited a film decor company to rent some furniture for this particular wedding . Because all these items are antique props, we had to be extremely careful through transportation, set up and take down on the day of. Because there’s a certain look we’re trying to achieve, 80% of the items were sorted out locally in Vancouver and transported to Victoria for the set up. It’s like moving a house from one location to the others and back.

TEA CEREMONY

Tea ceremony is an important part in Chinese culture when two families united together as one, and color red is must have color for this tradition.

Weddingism styled this place with red lanterns and drapes together with some props to make this tea ceremony memorable for the families.

Embracing tradition, the couple held their morning Chinese tea ceremony at the Japanese Garden next to the castle.  This location was scouted during the site visit, which is a perfect place to host it for its ancient architecture style.

DINNER RECEPTION UNDER THE TENT

We’ve relocated all the chairs from the ceremony and the guests were welcomed to dine under the stars. A pairing of a clear tent from Black and White with hundred of globe lights hanging above with the flowing blush sheers, gave that extra romantic ambience.

The table settings are all about details. Vintage charger plates, water goblets, wine glasses, utensils, candle sticks and dusty blue plates and napkins were specifically picked to go with this fairytale vintage setting.

The details for dinner setting were undeniably mesmerizing.  Victorian goblets against a candle lit floral runway graced the table, where Truffles Catering presented a 5-course meal. Beautiful fairytale cake designed and made by Momo Chen Cakes

THE END | HAPPILY EVER AFTER

Eva and Kevin’s wedding was truly a fairytale come true. It was such a memorable experience working side by side with Weddingism team, a well-known international wedding design and planning company, and be able to manage and execute their design concept into the reality. In total, we spent over 300 hours and more in  planning, sourcing and working on the details with all vendors plus all the overnight meetings with Weddingism from Shanghai.

WeDo setup team worked a total of 18 hours each, taking minimum breaks, carrying heavy furniture, and hiking from the forest to gardens. The physical toll on the team was insane, but the adrenaline and passion to complete this wedding was more than the pain in their limbs.

There were 80 guests for this wedding but over 60 vendors/workers in all different areas including decor, flower, catering, production, cake and more! In total if we average out 15 hours per person that’s over 1000 hours of work and over a million steps taken by all vendors. Big shout out to everyone who worked on this project with us! This wedding would not be what it is without the entire team’s support.  We truly appreciate your hard work and we love you!
